Truck technology and overlooking the fundamentals – mapping & navigation
Tuesday 13th April @ 11:00 AM BST
webinar // duration 45 - 60 minutes

Welcome to the 2021 Let’s Explore webinar series from Webfleet. Join us as we explore upcoming trends in connected vehicle technology, big changes in the here and now, and much more.

With the industry debating the next phase of transport & logistics - from platooning to drones - it’s easy to overlook the here and now, the challenges that face transport and logistics companies daily and the technology that’s widely available to help. Our team of experts will discuss the impact of poor route planning and failing to use heavy vehicle specific navigation devices. An all too common mishap in the UK (because of poor planning) is bridge strikes. The consequences range from economic damage caused by closed routes, to the threat of infrastructure failures and cost to rebuild. For vehicle operators and drivers, involvement in incidents like this can be damaging to both individual careers and entire companies.

Webfleet has the pleasure of being joined by Clare Waterfall, Sales and Marketing Director of abnormal load routing at Cascade Software, and Lesley O’Brien OBE, Managing Partner of Freightlink Europe. These two highly regarded individuals from the industry have vast experience in operating trucks and guiding fleets with training and consultancy services, promoting best practice in the sector. The session is hosted by Webfleet resident transport and logistics telematics experts James Wyatt and Joe Coombs.

Key learnings

  • The practical ways operators can avoid bridge strikes - Lesley O’Brien OBE (Freightlink Europe) will explore the practical ways operators can avoid bridge strikes and help drivers adapt to different vehicle heights.
  • Utilising truck specific navigation - James Wyatt (Webfleet solutions) discusses navigation solutions available to heavy vehicle operators and why large-vehicle specific solutions are rarely used.
  • Correctly managing abnormal loads - Clare Waterfall (Cascade Software) provides an expert perspective on the specialist area of abnormal load route planning and approval, what can go wrong, and how to use technology to mitigate these risks.
  • Smart HGV routing and scheduling - Joe Coombs (Webfleet) will close the session by assessing what HGV routing is available to fleets in 2021 and the future of scheduling technology to reduce fleet risk.
